GoLive Smart Objects
Versions 6 and CS2 updated 11/05 The use of Smart Objects is a great way to streamline your use of Illustrator, Photoshop, and LiveMotion files. Smart Objects saved to the Smart Objects folder in the site file can be automatically linked to web ready files. When the original file is updated, the web file is updated as well.
Adding a Smart Object
To add a Smart Object, you must first save an appropriate file in the Smart Objects folder in the Data Folder. Drag an appropriate Smart Object from the Objects Palette (6.0) or Toolbar (CS2) onto the desired web page. Finally, use the Fetch URL (point and shoot) button to link the placeholder to the desired file in the Smart Objects folder in the Site File. As you do, a Save for the Web dialog box will appear. Adjust your settings, point to your image or media folder, and save your object. Editing a Smart Object Double click the object, and it will open in its native file. Alter the object as desired, and click save. GoLive will automatically update your web file as well! Notice in the Inspector, although your source file is the Smart Object, the target file is a web file. This is the one that will be uploaded and used on your page. |
