Using Frames in GoLive 6.0 and CS 2
11/05

Frames consist of 2 or more html pages that are tied together using a Frame Set. In the case of this page, there are actually 3 pages: the banner, navigation bar and the main page. The Frame Set page simply points to each html page, and allows certain properties to be set.

6.0

CS 2

Start by clicking the Frame Editor tab at the top of your document, to the right of the Layout tab. Since you have not added frames yet, you will see a No Frames message. To add a Frame Set to a page, select the frames tab of the Palette (6.0) or Object Toolbar and drag the frame layout of your choice to the page. In CS2, you may get the window below.

View a description of each layout by moving your mouse over each item in the Frames Object Palette or Toolbar.

Your frame layout will appear with question marks. Each question mark must be linked to an html page. Pages can be easily linked by clicking an icon and using the point and shoot or Fetch URL button.

  • Click Start to preview a single frame.
  • Link frames to the desired pages by dragging the Fetch URL or point and shoot button to the desired page in the Site File.

Linking

When creating links in a page used in a Frame Set, it is important to specify the target frame in which the new page will appear. Usually there is some type of navigational page containing most of the links. After creating the link, select the target window from the target drop down menu. Default causes the new page to load in the same window, and blank causes the new page to load in a new window. Alternative options include names of the other pages in your frames.
