Tables are essentially grids in which text, graphics and other objects can be placed. Each individual box is called a cell.Table Example

  • Go to Table/Insert Table and enter the number of rows and columns you would like. Although it helps to know ahead of time what this will be, you can easily alter it later.
  • If you would like to choose from a group of pre-formatted tables click AutoFormat and select the desired format.
  • Click OK when you have completed entering your table options.
  • Use the Table menu to:
    • insert cells
    • delete cells
    • merge cells
    • split cells
    • select cells
  • To move the table, select it and position your mouse over the crossbar at the upper left hand corner. Your mouse will become a hand, allowing you to move the table.
  • To increase or decrease the size of rows and columns, position the mouse over the cell borders. The mouse will become a double arrow which will alter cell size when dragged.
  • To add color to or change the border of a cell, go to Format/Borders and Shading.
  • The Borders tab allows the addition of customized borders to any cell.
  • The Shading tab allows color to be added to any cell.

  • Tables used in web pages must be centered by selecting Properties from the Table Menu. Clicking the table tab provides options to center tables.
