Toolbars and Palettes
Version X,10/02
There are many toolbars in Office and you can hide and show them as desired. If you are missing any toolbars, go to the View Menu and scroll down to Toolbars to select the one you need. The Standard Toolbar should always be available. In addition, depending on your version of Office, you should also see the Formatting Palette (View, Formatting Palette) or the Formatting Toolbar (View/Toolbars/Formatting).
You can move toolbars or palettes by dragging the bar containing the close button (top for palettes, left for bars), and you can size them by dragging the lower right hand corner.

| Above is the Standard Toolbar, which should appear after Word launches. Excel and Power Point's Standard Toolbars are somewhat different. If you don't see this Toolbar, go to View/Toolbars/Standard. |
The Formatting Palette (left) should also appear when you launch an Office Application. If it doesn't, go to View/Formatting Palette. In the Formatting Palette, click on any of the triangles to toggle on or off various options pertaining to the adjacent heading. The Formatting Palette is context sensitive and will give you different options depending on what object is selected. For instance, if a picture is selected, you will have Wrapping and Picture options available. If text is selected, you will see the options to the left. To move the Formatting Palette to the desired location, just drag the its title bar.

| Above is Word's Formatting Toolbar, which may help if you have used previous versions of Office. It will only appear via the View/Toolbars/Formatting menu choice. Anything you can do with this toolbar can now be done with the Formatting Palette so if you have no preference, use the Formatting Palette instead. |
