Creating a Blank Site File
Version 6 for OS X 11/02

Site File

A site file is similar to a table of contents because it shows you where all your web files are kept. It also contains an area for you to store all your data files that are web related but will not go on the web until they are converted, such as .psd (Photoshop) and .liv (LiveMotion). Best of all, this file also allows you to easily create and update links. You can either use a currently existing web folder, or create a new one when building your site file.

To create a site file:

Go to File/New site, select Single User and click Next.

Choose Blank Site for an entirely new site.

Give your site a name, and be sure the Create Project Folder box is checked.

Navigate to the desired location of your site and click choose.

GoLive will create a site file, a root folder and other folders, all of which are represented in the site file above. Click the Double arrow at the botom right of your site window in order to view both your root folder(web files, left) and your data folder (other files, right).

On the left side of the window is your root folder; this contains all the files you will need to upload to the web. It already has your Home Page, index.html. On the right you can keep all your non-web data such as Photoshop and LiveMotion files. You can edit these files and convert them into web files as necessary. If you look in the folder that GoLive created it will look something like this:

There will be a root folder with index.html (the Homepage), the site file and a backup, the data folder and the settings folder. From now on, when you use your site you should always open the site file first.
