Creating Address Labels in AppleWorks 6.0
2/03

Create the Database

First you will need to create a database with address information by launching AppleWorks and picking Database from the starting point menu. Databases are made up of records and fields. In the case of labels, each record consists of all the information necessary to create one label. Fields contain smaller pieces of information needed for each record, such as name, address, city and state. In order to create a database, fields must first be defined.

Define the Fields

  • Open a new AppleWorks Database document.
  • Type a field name and click Create.
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Address
    • City
    • State
    • Zip Code
  • Click done then name and save your database.

Fields can be modified or deleted with the appropriate buttons above.

Enter Records

Your database will appear with an empty record. Enter the information and go to Edit/New Record. Add as many records as necessary. Move between records using the tab on the index card icon at the left side of the database screen.

Format the Label Layout

The Label Layout Assistant allows you to easily put your labels into a format that will print on Avery or custom labels.

Go to Layout/New Label Layout and follow the Label Assistant Steps.

Click next.

Choose from Avery or custom labels (in this case, Avery was chosen).

Select your label style list.

Set the number of lines per label.

Select the fields for each line from database you created. Put commas in where appropriate.

Select the text style.

Give your format a name.

Click create to create labels.

Go to Window/Print View to preview your labels. It may help to print your labels first on plain paper, and compare the print out format with your labels. If the formatting appears to be correct, print on label paper.
